Our Climate Change Smart Solutions is an enabler to the SDGs
Climate change impacts are major constraints to the attainment of sustainable development goals(SDGs). This project is expected to enhance in agricultural yield of over 121 million smallholder farmers in Nigeria; leading to reduced poverty and hunger in Nigeria (SDG 1 and 2). About 44 to 120% yield increase is anticipated for maize production. The saving cost from efficient use of climate change advisory and timeliness of farm activities can help reduce the quantity of inputs used in the farm and help with profitability ranging from 40-50%. Climate change crop-induced failures in expected to be reduced by 60-70%. Absolute income poverty reduction of about 25-40% is anticipated to be achieved among the farmers with the intervention uptake due to enhanced farm yield. Timeliness of farm operations is expected to reduce post-harvest food losses by 20-50%. Impact on crop pest infestation reduction due to the timeliness of farm activities is anticipated to range from 15-30%. Increased food and nutritional security are anticipated to range from 24-45%.
The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), also known as the Global Goals, were adopted by the United Nations in 2015 as a universal call to action to end poverty, protect the planet, and ensure that by 2030 all people enjoy peace and prosperity.
The 17 SDGs are integrated—they recognize that action in one area will affect outcomes in others and that development must balance social, economic, and environmental sustainability.
